Three LGUs Get Weightlifting Equipment From Hidilyn Diaz
HIDILYN DIAZ – Three local government units (LGUs) received weightlifting equipment from Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
Hidilyn Diaz made history in July 2021 when she lifted 127 kg in the clean and jerk event to become the first Filipino to win a gold medal in the Olympics. She bested eight athletes, including Chinese athlete Liao Qiuyun, who held the world record.
A two-story house in Tagaytay, 50 million pesos, and other things were given to Hidilyn. She previously announced on Instagram that she would take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Based on a report from Philstar, Hidilyn Diaz and her husband/coach Julius Naranjo donated weightlifting equipment to different local government units (LGUs). The Pinay champ previously made donations to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The 31-year-old Olympic champion made donations in hopes of starting a weightlifting program at the grassroots level in key cities in Metro Manila. The Manila Weightlifting Club in Tondo, the Borromeo Weightlifting Club in Taguig City, and the Dasmarias Weightlifting Club in Dasmarias City all received weightlifting equipment donations from Hidilyn and the rest of #TeamHD.

Phase 2 of Diaz’s mission to give back includes the donations to the three local government units in Metro Manila. Phase 1 occurred when gifts were given to the men and women of the AFP late last month. Equipment for weightlifting was provided to the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
“Malaking bagay ito kasi itong tatlong weightlifting clubs ay bago,” said Hidilyn.
The weightlifter mentioned the assistance from SpartPH, which helped with the purchase of more equipment. While Atoy Customs 4×4 Body Kits helped in customising the vehicle to fit the deliveries of these heavy weightlifting equipment in Manila, Taguig, and Dasmarinas, Mazada Philippines allowed the usage of its BT-50 truck.
More than anything else, according to Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo, she was moved by the happiness she witnessed in the faces of the young, aspiring athletes they met at the distribution.
“Sobrang saya ko na makita ang mga bata na nag-enjoy sa weightlifting na sana matuto. I hope na mabigyan sila ng direction sa buhay through sports, sana maging world champion at gold medalist sila, at makapag-aral, mabigyan ng oportunidad…”
“Sana mas marami pang bata ang matuto mag-weightlifting at sana magkaroon talaga ng laro sa Luzon,” she added.
