Hidilyn Diaz Earthquake Experience While On Honeymoon

Following the comments, this is what Hidilyn Diaz shared about her honeymoon with the event of the earthquake.

HIDILYN DIAZ – Weightlifting champ Hidilyn Diaz experiences the impact of an earthquake while on honeymoon in Baguio.

On July 27, a magnitude of 7.3 earthquake struck Abra leaving a lot of buildings, establishments, and roads broken. It was so strong that it was felt in some parts of Luzon. The damage done by this strong shaking is being assessed and authorities advised the people to brace for some aftershocks.

Here are some updates as of 5 P.M.:

  • 5 deaths (2 in Benguet, 1 in Kalinga, 1 in Abra, 1 in Cagayan)
  • 64 injured (57 in Cordillera Administrative Region, 7 in Ilocos Region)
  • 61 schools were damaged in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and CAR
  • 3 damaged bridges
  • 428 houses destroyed (423 in CAR, 5 in Ilocos Region)
  • 22 roads closed
  • power outages in 20 areas in CAR including the whole of Ilocos Sur which was restored at 2 P.M.

Despite no tsunami warning, the strong rocking triggered landslides or caused cracks.

And as impacts were felt in some other parts of Luzon, it was also felt in Baguio where newly-married couple Hidily Diaz and Julius Naranjo. It was just a day since they got married and their first day as a married couple was unexpectedly met with an earthquake experience.

There were seen evacuating the Baguio Country Club, the place where they were staying at. She felt their bed moving but she was thinking that it was just her husband beside her.

She narrated, “Akala ko si Julius [Naranjo] gumagalaw. Pero nu’ng matagal-tagal na, sabi ko kailangan ko na magdasal.”

Meanwhile, her husband who was from Guam, said that he is actually used to this kind of situation.
