Personalities React to Jinggoy Estrada’s Call to Ban K-Dramas

Personalities Express Reactions to the Call of Jinggoy Estrada to Ban K-Dramas in PH

Several personalities in showbiz and politics expressed their reactions towards the call of Senator Jinggoy Estrada to ban Korean dramas (K-Dramas) in the Philippines.

As a result of his remarks that he is thinking about outlawing the broadcast of Korean dramas in the Philippines because he claims it interferes with Filipino artists’ ability to appreciate their creations, Senator Jinggoy Estrada has become a social media sensation. Filipinos overindulge in KDramas while ignoring domestic productions, claims Estrada.

“Ang aking obserbasyon pagpatuloy tayo nagpapalabas ng Korean telenovela, ang hinahangaan ng ating mga kababayan ay itong mga Koreano at nawawalan ng trabaho at kita yung ating mga artistang Pilipino,” said the senator.

He emphasized that he occasionally considers outlawing these telenovelas produced by foreigners in favor of idolizing Filipino performers who are actually skilled actors. He noted that Korean products are popular here since Korean products are promoted by Filipinos in the country.

“Kung ang pino-promote natin ay mga produkto ng Koreano, kaya nagkakaroon tayo ng halos maraming produktong Korean dito sa atin imbis na i-promote natin yung sarili natin ang napo-promote natin yung mga banyaga,” he said.

Some public figures disagree with the senator’s suggestion to ban Korean dramas. Atty. Gideon V. Pea, a well-known attorney, provided his viewpoint. Chito Miranda also discussed the idea of outlawing the broadcast of foreign television programs in the Philippines, including Korean dramas.

Even Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla revealed in his Facebook post that he enjoys watching and listening to Korean dramas and popular music. Because of this, it appears that he opposes prohibiting their distribution in the Philippines. Atty. Chel Diokno, a human rights attorney, also shared a meme.
