3 Men Identified as Fake MTPB Traffic Enforcers Arrested for Extortion
Authorities arrested three (3) men who were discovered to be fake traffic enforcers of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) for extortion.
The three suspects were detained, according to LT Col Rosalino Ibay Jr, commander of MPD Station 1 in Manila, for allegedly posing as MTPB employees. According to reports, the fake enforcers used traffic violations as a way to extort money from the driver.
Almario Duque, Mark Buzeta, and Jericho Estares were named as the suspects. According to Ibay, they were detained for allegedly extorting money from drivers on Road 10 and Mel Lopez Boulevard for infractions such as beating red light and unauthorized parking.
According to the report, the three were detained in an entrapment operation after receiving P1,000 to resolve a traffic infraction on Mel Lopez Boulevard. The three were even dressed in MTPB staff clothes. The MPD is still investigating where the three suspects made their uniforms.
The suspects refused to give a statement. Police received confirmation from the MTPB that the suspects were not employees. Charges of robbery, extortion, and usurpation of power will be brought against the suspects.
