The summer vacation of students are over and the a new school year in the elementary and secondary schools has started. Meanwhile, students have Saturday and Sunday or the weekends to rest and cope with their studies and the projects required of them.

Despite that there is a mandate on the starting and ending dates of the school year, there can be changes most especially when frequent class suspensions are taking place due to various reasons. Natural calamities are usually the reason why the Department of Education (DepEd) or the local government units (LGUs) declare the cancellation of classes in schools. It is primarily for the safety of the students.

Usually, the LGUs cancel classes or declare #WalangPasok whenever storm signals are up in their city or province. Students and as well as teachers are advised to stay at their homes for safety.
