Tropical Depression Maymay to Affect PH Weather Condition, PAGASA Says

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Tropical Depression Maymay will trigger rains over parts of the Philippines.

On Wednesday (October 12, 2022), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Depression Maymay will continue to affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that Tropical Depression Maymay has been last spotted 305 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and a gustiness of 55 kph.

Maymay is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area as it approaches the Philippine landmass.

The weather disturbance will bring Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Cagayan and Isabela. Rains with gusty winds are also expected over Isabela, Aurora, and Quirino.

“Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps, and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA reported.

Cloudy weather condition with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms is expected over Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Ilocos Region.

The weather agency has also advised the residents in the affected area to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy with at times intense rains and severe thunderstorms.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 will remain in the following areas.

  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Aurora
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Extreme northern portion of Quezon including Pollilo Islands
