LTFRB Approves Minimum Fare Increase for Some Public Transportation

LTFRB – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board approved the increase of minimum fare for jeepneys, buses, and taxis.

In the Philippines, a lot of Filipinos take the public transportation daily to get to school, work, or anywhere they need to be. While there are individuals who have private cars, the number of people who take the PUVs are higher than the car owners and some members of a household with a car has to take the public transportation for some time.

Thus, any increase or decrease in the minimum fare affects a lot of people. The government agency that have the right to decline or approve proposals to increase the fare in jeepneys, buses, taxis, and other public utility vehicles (PUVs) is the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board or more commonly called LTFRB.

Recently, the LTFRB made a decision on the proposed increase on the minimum fare in jeepneys and buses. The government agency also approved an adjustment on the flag down rates in taxis.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the LTFRB approved the increase of P1.00 on the minimum fare in traditional jeepneys and modern jeepneys for the first four (4) kilometers. The buses are granted a P2.00 increase on the minimum fare in buses.

The increase in the minimum fare in jeepneys brings the minimum fare to P12.00 in traditional jeepney and P14.00 in modern jeepney. According to the report, the increase in the fare in buses bring the minimum fare to P13.00 in ordinary buses and P15.00 in air-conditioned buses.

The flagdown in taxis was also raised by the LTFRB and as well as the flagdown of transport network vehicle service (TNVS). According to the government agency, the minimum flagdown rates of for taxis and sedan-type TNVS will be P45.00 while the AUV/SUV-type TNVS will be P55.

With regards to the hatchback-type TNVS, the government agency set the flagdown rate will be P35.00. The new fares will be effective in the first week of October or 15 days after their publication.
