John Amores Reveals the Tough Road Behind His Long-Awaited PBA Comeback
JOHN AMORES – A second chance doesn’t come easily, and for John Amores, reclaiming his place in the PBA meant proving he was ready both on and off the court.
Controversial basketball player John Amores has revealed that his journey back to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) was far from easy, saying he had to complete numerous requirements before regaining his professional license.
Speaking to members of the media on Friday, July 10, following his first appearance on the court in nearly two years, Amores shared that the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) required him to undergo extensive evaluations and training before allowing him to play again.
“Madami yung mga pinagawa sa akin. Psychiatrist, sports psychology, nagpunta ako ng medical hospital don ako nagpa-psychiatrist tsaka sports psychology. Tsaka mga seminars… work, ethics., madaming pinagawa sa akin yung GAB, talaga trinabaho ko siya ng dalawang taon,” said Amores.
He emphasized that earning back his license required dedication and persistence rather than simply waiting for approval.
“Hindi basta-basta binigay ng GAB yung lisensya ko. Pinagtrabahuhan ko talaga siya, pinaghirapan ko.”
The 27-year-old athlete’s return comes more than a year after he was suspended from the league following a shooting incident in Laguna. The controversy also led to the revocation of his professional license by the GAB, preventing him from participating in official basketball competitions.
Despite the setback, Amores spent the past two years working to satisfy the conditions imposed by the regulatory body. His efforts included psychiatric consultations, sports psychology sessions, medical evaluations, and participation in seminars focused on ethics and professional conduct.
News of Amores’ return spread across social media on July 9 after Titan Ultra officially signed him for the remainder of the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup. The announcement marked a significant step in his professional comeback after an extended absence from competitive basketball.
Even before signing his contract, Amores had already been regularly attending Titan Ultra’s offseason training sessions. His consistent presence during team practices reflected his determination to rebuild his career and prove that he was prepared for another opportunity in the league.
Now officially back in the PBA, Amores hopes to move forward from the challenges of the past and focus on contributing to his team’s campaign while making the most of his second chance in professional basketball.
