Man in Bulacan Arrest for Using OVP to Solicit ‘Ayuda’ for Supposed Beneficiaries

The police authorities arrested a man using the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to solicit ‘ayuda’ for supposed beneficiaries.

Bulacan Police Provincial Office reported that the 41-year-old suspect identified as Joel Calis has been apprehended at Sitio Gulod Road 2, Brgy. Minuyan by the operatives of San Jose Del Monte City Police Station

The operatives arrested the suspect over alleged usurpation of authority and other forms of deceit. The culprit introduced himself as a staff of OVP wearing a blue polo shirt with embroidered OVP logo.

Solicit

After the introduction, Calis would OVP to solicit money for DSWD Region 3 projects to support beneficiaries including senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and solo parents.

Police claimed that after further investigation they discovered Calis had no connection with the OVP.

The police, along with intelligence operatives and barangay officials, then went to the location and discovered Calis allegedly presiding over the processing of the alleged financial assistance application forms bearing the DSWD logo.

SJDM CPS officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant Colonel Cresenciano Cordero Jr. has ordered to arrest Calis for failing to present any identification as proof of his affiliation with the OVP. Calis has been brought to the city police station for further investigation.

OVP spokesperson Atty. Reynold Munsayac encouraged the public to be more vigilant when having transactions with individuals pretending to be someone.

“Siguruhin po na ma-verify muna ang pagkakakilanlan ng mga tao na nagpapakilala na may kaugnayan sa OVP. Para po makasiguro, maaaring tumawag sa official OVP telephone numbers, 8532-5942 / 8370-1719,” Munsayac said.
