Pangasinan Farmer Dies After Struck by Lightning

A Pangasinan farmer has passed away after he was struck by lightning while working on his farm in the town of Natividad.

A 40-year-old farmer identified as Dionisio Dumundon Jr. immediately died after he was struck by lightning at Barangay San Eugenio in Natividad, Pangasinan. The latter suffered a serious wound on his head, which leads to his untimely death.

The victim has been rushed to hospital but he died along the way. The latter went to his farm to work but the heavy rain poured down along with lightning and thunderstorms, according to the victim’s wife named Rosemarie Dumundon,

“Ora-orada po akong lumabas at puntahan siya doon sa bukid pero hindi ko po siya inabutan, isinakay po siya sa tricycle papunta sa ospital, sobrang sakit po hindi matanggap, pati mga anak koi yak ng iyak pero sabi ko sa mga anak ko magpakatatag dahil wala na ang ama nila” Rosemarie said.

Dumundon failed to take shelter during the heavy downpour and was directly hit by lightning. However, the victim’s colleagues were safe and unharmed after the incident, according to Natividad Police Station chief PLT. Cecilio de Sahagun.

“Itong biktima ay nagtatanim ng palay sa farm niya. ‘Yung mga kasama niya sa bukid sinabing tinamaan siya ng kidlat, na-hit siya directly. Upon the response of the PNP Personnel, dead on arrival ang biktima,” Sahagun said.

The authorities advised the public to avoid open fields during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under the trees. He also instructed the public to avoid using electronic devices and take shelter in safe places.
