Earthquake Sultan Kudarat – Phivolcs Records 5.6 Magnitude Quake

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about Earthquake Sultan Kudarat Today August 2, 2022

EARTHQUAKE TODAY SULTAN KUDARAT – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Lebak.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.

Recently, a quake hit a part of Sultan Kudarat, August 2, 2022. At 01:24 p.m., Lebak was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake in Sultan Kudarat today, August 2, 2022, was located at 06.72°North, 123.75°East – 036 km North 75° West of Lebak with a depth of origin of 036 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. The agency stated that Intensity I was felt in Zamboanga City, Intensity II in General Santos City, and Intensity III in Cotabato City. The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

  • Intensity IV- T’boli, South Cotabato
  • Intensity III- Santo Nino and Koronadal City, South Cotabato;Kiamba, Sarangani
  • Intensity II – General Santos City; Cotabato City; Malungon and Maasim, Sarangani
  • Intensity I – Zamboanga City; Davao City; Cagayan de Oro City; Kidapawan City
