Update on Earthquake Abra Death Toll as per the NDRRMC

EARTHQUAKE ABRA DEATH TOLL – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) gave an update on the death toll due to the 7.0 magnitude quake in Abra.

Abra was recently hit by a strong earthquake. Initially, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the quake that hit the province at 7.3 magnitude. The strong shaking caused some infrastructures to collapse and the people had to evacuate their homes or the buildings they were in during the shaking.

Abra was the epicenter of the quake but the intensity of the shaking was felt even in some areas in Metro Manila. It was followed by several strong aftershocks which mostly hit the province.

Currently, Abra is in the State of Calamity as declared by the provincial counsel. Private and public infrastructures were damaged by the quake and almost 80% of their residents were affected. Classes and work are currently suspended until Monday, August 1, 2022.

With regards to the earthquake Abra death toll, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) yesterday said that five (5) people were reported dead due to the quake. Then, the number of individuals injured were around 60.

Recently, the NDRRMC gave another update regarding the earthquake Abra death toll. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the count of fatalities remains at five (5) now but the authorities are verifying another possible death due to the quake.

As of this writing, 136 individuals were reported to have been injured due to the quake while four (4) people are currently missing. The NDDRMC reported that a total of 79,263 individuals were affected by the quake with 1,622 families still in evacuation centers now. A total of 1,512 people are living outside their homes.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured to extend cash aid and food packs to the quake victims in Abra. The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Pag-IBIG Fund also offer loans.
