Private Schools Group Speak on Full Face-to-Face Classes Mandate in November
PRIVATE SCHOOLS – The Federation of Associations of Private Schools & Administrators (FAPSA) will make a request to DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte over the full face-to-face classes mandate by November.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is now under a new leadership. Education Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte has started her term. One of the first things pushed by the new DepEd Secretary is the resumption of face-to-face classes in the Philippines.
Within her first two weeks in office, Duterte made it official that full face-to-face classes in elementary and secondary schools in the Philippines will be implemented starting November. The plan is to start the resumption of the F2F classes in phases first.
The memorandum released cited that schools may start with implementing the F2F classes for three or four days in a week until October 31. The DepEd school opening is set on August 22.
However, according to a private schools group, FAPSA, some of the private educational institutions are not ready for the full face-to-face classes yet. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, FAPSA spokesperson Leo Aberion explained that some schools were devastated by Typhoon Odette and needs to be renovated.
“We have to renovate, we don’t have enough classroom to prepare for face-to-face classes, especially in Visayas,” he said.
Based on the report, FAPSA will make a request to the office of DepEd Secretary and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to give them “a leeway” regarding the full face-to-face classes mandate set in November. The private schools group clarified that the request is not to disagree but an appeal for leeway on behalf of the private institutions.
Reportedly, some of the schools have started their enrollment and some parents signed up for hybrid distance learning. They are worrying that parents might withdraw if there would be changes.
