Malacañang Speaks on DOH Leadership under Marcos Administration

MALACAÑANG – The Palace revealed the pick of Pres. Bongbong Marcos as Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Health (DOH).

A new administration assumed office last June 30, 2022. President Bongbong Marcos has appointed the personalities whom he chose to head the different agencies and departments under the government. His Cabinet members were among those who attended his oath-taking that was held at the Philippine National Museum.

The Marcos family and several distinguished guests including former Philippine presidents and officials and representatives from other nations were also present at Marcos Jr.’s inauguration. He’s the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines.

However, there are still a few agencies for which Marcos has yet to appoint a secretary. One of these is the Department of Health (DOH). Meanwhile, Malacañang recently gave an update.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang announced that Pres. Bongbong Marcos picked former DOH Undersecretary and spokesperson Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire to be the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Department of Health (DOH).

Based on the Memorandum released by Malacañang, Vergeire will be the OIC of DOH until July 31 or until a “replacement has been appointed”. According to the report, when asked why Marcos chose an OIC instead of a secretary for DOH, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said that the selection process for the DOH leadership is still ongoing.

With regards to the number of people considered to lead the Health Department, Angeles expressed that she has no idea as to the candidates for DOH secretary. According to her, it is expected that if the administration has yet to choose a secretary by July 31, Vergeire’s term as the department’s OIC may extend.
