An administrative aide died inside Malacanang
Press Secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles confirmed that an administrative aide died from an apparent fall from a building inside the Malacanang Palace.
On July 14, the press secretary said that Mr. Mario Castro fell “from the 4th floor of the Mabini Hall, which is inside the Malacañang,” based on the report from ABS-CBN News.
Angeles said that currently, the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and the Philippine National Police are investigating the said incident. The press secretary also extended condolences to the family of the administrative aide.
“We express our profound sorrow and condolences for the family of Mr. Mario Castro. Tinitingnan natin… yung possibility na may maitulong tayo sa kaniyang pamilya. We will do whatever we can to help the family,” Angeles said.
No further details have been shared with the media regarding this incident, as of this writing. Meanwhile, during the press briefing, Angeles also announced that President Bongbong Marcos has assigned former health spokesperson Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire as OIC of the Department of Health (DOH.)
Amid the pandemic, Vergeire has become the face of DOH. Prior to being the DOH spokesperson, she was the head of the agency’s Public Health Services team. Sec. Angeles said that the appointment of Vergeire as the DOH OIC could be extended until July 31 if President Bongbong Marcos still can’t choose his DOH Secretary by then.
The Chief Executive also tapped former LRT administrator Mel Robles as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager.
