LTO Warns Online Fixers Offering Illegal Services to Clients

The Land Transport Office (LTO) has warned the online fixers of possible charges they may face for offering illegal services to the applicants.

LTO officer-in-charge Romeo Vera Cruz has released a statement renewing its warning against online fixers offering illegal transactions such as motor vehicle registration and other services.

Vera Cruz said that the agency will continue to conduct relentless operations to arrest individuals involved in corruption and illegal transaction. He also expressed his willingness to clean the agency to protect its clients.

The official also advised the public to avoid patronizing fixers for their own good. He explained that clients may also be held equally accountable in accordance with the law.

Earlier this week, the agency together with Quezon City District – Anti-Cybercrime Team (QCD – ACT) arrested some individuals identified as Jefferson Uy and Arnel Miranda for offering illegal services.

LTO reported that a member of the joint task force pretended to be a client seeking Uy’s services. Uy turned over the asset’s document to Miranda who processed the transaction at the LTO Novaliches District Office in Quezon City.

“After sealing the transaction, Uy informed the agent that the motor vehicle is renewed and that the original receipt is ready for pick-up. This led to his apprehension.” The agency said.

The suspect has been arrested after the joint task force learned about his involvement in the transaction. Both Uy and Miranda are currently under the custody of the QCD while waiting for inquest proceedings.

The suspects will face charges for violations of the Revised Penal Code on Estafa or Swindling and the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018.
