Inclement Weather Condition Brings Mudslides & Flashfloods in Banaue, Ifugao and Cause Damage to Banaue Rice Terraces
The mudslides and flash floods in Banaue, Ifugao have caused damage to Banaue Rice Terraces due to heavy and incessant rains.
A Facebook user named Nona Mia Nicampo has shared the video footage of a flash flood in the area, which swept a motorcycle and other vehicles. The video quickly circulates online and garnered various reactions from the netizens.
Some residents in the area also suffered wounds and injuries due to the massive flooding and mudslides. The natural disaster also causes damage to several houses, according to Banaue Vice Mayor Donald Mongolnon.
“Unexpected po ‘yung nangyari dito sa Banaue kasi hindi namin inaasahan. Biglang bumuhos ‘yung malakas na ulan, So far, wala naman (casualty). May mga injured lang, Yung ibang areas hindi pa mapasok kasi hindi pa cleared ‘yung daanan,” Mongolnon said..
Mangolnon said that the mudslides affect Banaue Rice Terraces but assumed that only a portion has been damaged. Currently, the area has no electricity after the inclement weather condition destroyed electrical poles.
“Hindi naman siguro lahat. May mga areas lang na may slide sa Rice Terraces,” Mongolnon added.
Banaue LGU continues to distribute relief goods to the affected families. The government also conducts forced evacuations in affected areas to ensure the safety of the residents.
On Friday (July 8, 2022). PAGASA released an advisory regarding the effects of southwest monsoon or habagat in the western portion of the country.
