Unidentified Woman Left Newborn Infant Inside Box in Makati City

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A newborn infant has been left inside a box and abandoned in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City.

Violence Against Women and Children Desk desk officer Edna Felix reported that a couple found the infant along Capt. M. Reyes Street in Barangay Bangkal. The couple immediately brought the baby to the barangay hall.

The baby has been brought to the health center for a medical consultation. Luckily, the baby is in good and healthy condition, according to Felix. The barangay personnel also donate some amount of cash for the infant.

“Maayos siya nu’ng nakuha. Malinis at tsaka nu’ng pina-check up namin siya. Estimated ng doktor 5 to 7 days na. Maayos naman po. OK ’yung health niya,” Felix said.

The baby girl has been moved to the social welfare department center in Makati City. Makati PNP Police SSgt. Jasmin Mae Danao assisted VAWC personnel. Danao also breastfeeds the baby after she felt sympathy for the poor infant.

“If ever naman po sa nanay kung nagka-post partum siya, sana po kung maayos na ang kanyang pakiramdam, balikan niya ’yung bata. Mas maganda pa rin na totoong nanay mag-alaga sa baby,” Danao said.

The CCTV footage installed at the barangay hall captured the woman who left the infant. Unfortunately, the officials failed to recognize the woman because of her face mask. The officials also claimed that the woman is not a resident in the area.

The authorities will still investigate to identify and locate the infant’s biological mother.
