According to Martin, he shared several fond memories with Roces. He got close to her in 2012 when he did “Walang Hanggan” and she was the one who boost his confidence whenever he would feel insecure about his capacity in speaking English.

Their relationship isn’t just in front of the camera because for him, it goes beyond that. He thought that losing Eddie Gutierrez is already the most painful but this time, losing Susan Roces brought him pure devastation. This time, the pain’s at maximum for him.

And while she was alive, the late veteran actress would tell him to not be shy about not being fluent in English because what should matter most is how he would treat other people with dignity.

She also taught him the value of hard work and to love the company that’s giving him opportunities. He would also carry with him the learning about being just and fair to all people regardless of wealth and status. Those were just a few lessons he learned from her that he will forever take with him.

Closing his speech based on ABS-CBN report, “Kaya ‘La kung nasan ka man po ngayon, gusto ko pong malaman na lahat kami na nandito ay sobrang-sobrang mahal ka po namin at hinding-hindi ka po namin makakalimutan habang-buhay. I love you.”
