Maguad Couple Emotional Over Sentence of Accused

MAGUAD COUPLE – The parents of the two young children, who were brutally slain by their minor house companion decried the sentecing of the accused.

The Maguad siblings’ murder case was one of the crimes that rocked the country last year-the brutal fate of the siblings took place in the town of M’lang, North Cotabato province, in December 2021.

The victims, Crizzel Gwynn, 18-years-old and the youngest Crizville Louise or better known as “Boyboy,” 16-years, were found with stab wounds to the body, bruises, and traces of strangulation. Boyboy also had a gag in his mouth while a towel-covered Gwynn’s head.

According to M’lang police, Crizzel Gwynn and Crizville Louise received about 30 stab wounds to various parts of their bodies. After 6 days of investigation, the authorities considered the case closed. The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Kabacan, Cotabato filed a m*rder charges against two suspects, including adopted “Janice” and a sacristan or altar boy administering in the church. Both of them are minors.

Janice was allegedly envious and angry with the Maguad siblings, leading to the heinous crime. Lovella Maguad, Crizzel and Crizville’s mother, said that the sacristan boy had been in and out of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for more than 8 years receiving treatments and being looked after by them.

Lovella asked the supporters of the Republic Act 9344 or Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 to open their eyes to reality. She said youngsters who have a criminal mind are being safeguarded by Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan’s law.

The sentencing of the two accused was carried out recently. In a video taken by DXND Kidapawan at the Justice Hall Kabacan where the sentencing took place, the scene was intense after the Maguad couple confronted the mom of the accused.

They could not hide their grief after the sentencing of the two accused. They emotionally vented their resentment as they saw the parent of the accused. Lovella wept because she and her husband hoped for maximum justice but due to Juvenile Law no heavier sentence was imposed. As a correction, the court sentenced the two defendants to 17 years in each murder case count. A total of 34 years will be required for each of the two accused.
