Comelec Speaks on Vehicle w/ Sticker Indicating Campaign Colors, Hand Signs of Certain Candidates
COMELEC – The Commission on Elections denied it owns the vehicle spotted with a sticker indicating campaign colors and hand signs.
The Commission on Elections previously announced that “all systems go” for the upcoming poll. The poll body also assured that there will be no failure of elections and they are prepared contingencies in case problems with the vote-counting machines arise.
Abroad, several Filipinos have already cast their votes. It has already been days since the absentee voting in different countries started.
The automated election is using Smartmatic machines. Comelec did final testing on the machines and the sealing of the machines is also ongoing.
Amid the preparations for the May 9 Elections, a vehicle with a paper posted claiming it is owned by Comelec was spotted with a sticker indicating campaign colors and hand signs of certain presidential and vice-presidential bets.
The sticker indicates the campaign color of former Senator Bongbong Marcos and his campaign hand signal which is the “peace” sign. On its other side, the sticker also indicates vice-presidential bet and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s campaign color which is green and her hand sign which is the “fist” sign.
Based on a report on Inquirer, Comelec denied owning the said vehicle spotted with a sticker indicating the campaign colors and hand signs of certain candidates. According to the poll body’s spokesperson, James Jimenez, it is not their vehicle and it is not owned by an employee of the Commission on Elections.
Jimenez stressed that they have already referred the matter to the authorities for appropriate actions. Commissioner George Garcia expressed that it is very easy to just print the poll body’s logo and place it in a car so there could be something to post on social media.
