Telcos Instructed to Cancel Any Maintenance Operations From May 4 to May 14, NTC Says

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has instructed telcom to suspend their maintenance works until May 14, 2022.

NTC has issued a memorandum dated April 25 directing the telecommunications companies and other service providers to cancel all network repairs and maintenance operation during the election period.

The agency said that telecommunications services and its supporting infrastructure will play a vital role for the upcoming 2022 national elections since election results will be electronically transmitted.

Various government agencies, accredited citizens’ arms, volunteers, poll watchers and candidates will work together for the transmission of results after the May 9 national and local elections.

The Commission directs telco companies to suspend any kind of network repairs and maintenance operations during the given period.

“In this regard, the Commission hereby directs all public telecommunication entities (PTEs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Value-Added Service Providers (ASPs), and Satellite Service Providers (SSPs) to ensure that all network repairs and maintenance be completed on or before 03 May 2022. PTEs, ISPs, VASPs and SSPs are directed to suspend all network repairs and maintenance works from 04 to 14 May 2022,” the memorandum states.

NTC also advised the service providers to ensure that all workers involved in repair and maintenance works have appropriate uniform and identification. The agency also require telco firms to transport workers using appropriately marked company vehicles at all times.
