Tacloban Shooting – Chris Lorenz Fabian, a student of San Jose National High School, sacrificed his life for his classmates.

On June 22, 2026, a devastating incident happened in the said school in Tacloban City. Two male students started their shooting spree on Monday morning out of nowhere.

The supposed normal school day became a terrifying situation for the students and personnel. Videos showed that students were running to get out of the school premises, shouting with shock and fear.

Reports stated that the two suspects, who are minors, were already in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP). They were caught on the same day they committed this horrifying crime.

Based on the recent report, four victims were dead, and thirteen were injured, but these numbers could still increase. The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed concern over the incident. The agency also stated that it is ready to help students and personnel who were affected.

Following the heartbreaking incident, netizens commended a student who stood for his classmates. Based on social media posts, Chris Lorenz Fabian was the student in a viral video in which he can be seen guarding the door of their classroom when the two suspects started shooting.

Apparently, a translated post on X, formerly Twitter, came from Fabian’s classmate. “Sabi ng classmate nya na tatakbo na sana sila pero sabi nya (victim), iwan nalang siya kasi nabaril naman daw sya. Grabe si Fabian, ma’am. Sinacrifice nya life nya para sa mga classmates nya. Okay lang kami ma’am pero si Fabian, wala na.

Many netizens expressed sympathy for Fabian and everyone who was affected by the Tacloban shooting, while some were angered by what happened.

Amid this issue, Senator Robin Padilla renewed his call to amend the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, or the Republic Act 9344.
