According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), there are 10 candidates that remain in the official ballot for the May 2022 Presidential Elections. The bets are coming from different walks of life. Some of them are people who have held previous posts in the government – like former defense secretary Norberto Gonzales.
Personal Background:
Norberto Borja Gonzales was born on April 17, 1947 in Balanga, Bataan. He is a popular persona in union organizing, peace talks negotiation, and as a national security adviser under the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He is the chairman of the Philippine Democratic Socialist Party.
Accomplishments:
He was one of the primary advisers on matters of national security under the term of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He was also part of the talks with the Moro National Liberation Front under former President Corazon Aquino. He chaired Oplan Bantay Laya, “a wide-scale counter-insurgency program of the government”.
