Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañag said that President Duterte’s birthday wish is to have a “clean, fair, and honest” May 2022 Elections as he values a peaceful power transfer as part of his legacy. According to acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar, the President will have a “simple and quiet” birthday celebration in Davao City.

“We join all our countrymen in wishing our beloved President Rodrigo Roa Duterte a happy 77th birthday,” Andanar said.

There are 10 presidential candidates in the upcoming May 2022 Elections. Pres. Duterte has yet to endorse a presidential bet but his party, the PDP-Laban Cusi wing, previously announced their support to former Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. who is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

Previously, Pres. Duterte has thrown tirades against Marcos Jr. tagging him as a “very weak leader”. The running-mate of the former Senator is presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. She is hoping that her father will endorse her and Marcos Jr. as a tandem.

Mayor Sara is running under Lakas-CMD. She initially filed her candidacy for re-election as Davao City Mayor but withdrew it and run for vice president amid consistent calls from her supporters to take a national race.
