It is more than two (2) years now since the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has shaken several healthcare systems across the globe and millions of lives were lost due to the said virus. Unfortunately, it continues to mutate.

The Philippines is one of the nations hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Lives were lost, businesses were shut down, the economy was pulled down, and the people had to adapt to the “new normal”.

Amid the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the national government made it a protocol that everyone must wear a face mask when going outdoors. The practice of social distancing’s also urged most especially in public places.

The COVID-19 cases in the Philippines had another surge following the holiday season. It was also amid the threats of the Omicron variant. The whole Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 3 amid the increasing cases.

The cases have peaked and have taken a downward trend for several weeks now. The capital region is also under Alert Level 1. Will the protocol that requires the wearing of face masks be lifted?

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is not yet ready to order the lifting of the protocol that requires the wearing of a face mask. It is supported by Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III.

Currently, the vaccination program continues and several schools are slowly adapting the face-to-face classes.
