Leni Robredo backed by Bulacan Governor
On March 14, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando officially announced that he is supporting the presidential candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo.
Back in 2016, Robredo lost in the vote-rich province against her opponent Bongbong Marcos who is also running for president in the 2022 elections. Based on the report from Inquirer, Fernando made his official announcement at the Barasoain Church.
2,000,523 votes is up to grab as Bulacan is the fifth most vote-rich provinces in the country. In his speech, the Bulacan Governor cited the reason why he is endorsing VP Leni Rorebo. “Ito ay masusi kong pinag-aralan at ito ay tinaas ko sa Panginoon. Actually, matagal na kaming magkakilala ni VP at nasusubaybayan ko ang kaniyang paglilingkod. Ito ay personal choice ko. Lahat naman tayo may desisyon sa ating pipiliin,” Gov. Daniel Fernando said.
He also clarified the press release that came from the camp of Bongbong Marcos saying that he will not endorse VP Leni Robredo. Fernando said that he was misquoted and stressed that he studied his decision and intended to release the announcement before or after the campaign.
With this endorsement coming from the Bulacan Governor, VP Leni Robredo expressed her gratitude. She said that this endorsement is very vital for her campaign and this made her so happy. The Vice President also commended the actor-turned-politician for making this decision and for standing up for what he believes.
“Alam kong maraming nagsasabi kay Governor Fernando, pero ang pagtayo sa ngalan ng prinsipyo ay isang bagay na hinihiling natin na sana lahat ng lingkod-bayan ay tulad niya,” she said.
Robredo also highlighted the relief efforts that her team did for the people in Bulacan amid the pandemic. She added that even though she and the Bulacan Governor have different political colors, she will continue to look after the welfare of the people in the said province.
