Leni Robredo Slams Accusation That She Has The Support Of Communists

Leni Robredo warned the public against fake news

Vice President Leni Robredo denied the accusation that she got the support of communist groups in the Philippines for her presidential candidacy.

The official Facebook Page of VP Leni shared screenshots of text messages claiming her alleged link to communist groups. One message accused the presidential aspirant of saying that Joma Sison, the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), should be welcomed back in the country like a hero.

Allegedly, the Vice President said this in an interview on March 9, 2022. Another message claimed that the CPP and the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the communist group, are supporting the presidential candidacy of VP Leni Robredo.

In the caption of the FB Page post, the Vice President strongly denied these accusations against her. She said that there is no truth in claims that she is forming a coalition with the communist groups. She also stressed that she is willing to hear the side of anyone, as long as there is no violence involved.

“Once and for all: Kaliwa, kanan, taas, baba, lahat handa tayong pakinggan — basta tapat, mapayapa, at handang magtrabaho para iangat ang buhay ng Pilipino. Yung mga talagang kilala ako, alam na hindi ako naniniwala sa dahas para solusyonan ang anumang problema. Alam na tutol ako sa sinumang pumupulot ng armas para maggiit ng sariling agenda,” the Vice President said.

The presidential aspirant reiterated that she is not joining hands with those groups or those who follow the same beliefs. She added that her focus is on serving with peace and dignity. “Priority ko ang magtrabaho sa mapayapang paraan para sa dignidad ng bawat tao, ang empowered and responsible exercise of freedoms, at ang fairness,” she said.

For VP Leni Robredo, red-tagging is just another effort of her critics to bring her down. “Gusto nyong pigilin ang momentum ng People’s Campaign? Try harder. O better yet: Sumali na lang kaya kayo? Ipanalo na natin ‘to,” she said.
