MMDA Says Standing Passengers Still Prohibited in Jeepneys & Buses
ALERT LEVEL 1 – MMDA announced that standing passengers in jeepneys and buses remain prohibited under Alert Level 1.
On Tuesday (March 1, 2022), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) told the public that passengers are still prohibited to stand in jeepneys and buses. Public utility vehicles are only allowed to use their full seating capacity.
MMDA officer-in-charge and general manager Romando Artes has already discussed the matter with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in compliance with the IATF guidelines.
Under Alert Level 1 all people, establishments and other activities are allowed to work and operate. However, the public is required to comply with the minimum health safety protocols.
The agency will also monitor the effect of the Alert Level 1 on the traffic condition because reduced space in the major thoroughfare would be a challenge on EDSA especially when it comes to provincial buses.
MMDA have yet to decide whether to expand the number coding scheme depending on the traffic condition under Alert Level 1.
