PNP Identified 5 Netizens Spreading Fake Death of Missing Sabungeros

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified the five (5) netizens who are allegedly spreading the fake death of missing sabungeros online.

The PNP is reportedly looking into at least five persons who used social media to circulate photographs of the suspected bodies of missing sabungeros. Backtracking on photographs that went popular on social media was used to determine the identity of the five suspects.

The proprietors of five Facebook profiles that uploaded bogus photographs regarding the missing sabungero have been identified by the Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) (cockfighting aficionados). The posters were Shierna Rose Amparado, Candice Delatorre, Anthony Dela Pena, Vincelou Mendigo Oludnacatab (Lou), and Grace Gucman Panes.

The PNP leadership, according to Brig. Gen. Robert Rodriguez, director of the PNP-ACG, had previously stated that the disinformation using the photos could have been a deliberate attempt to sabotage the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s (CIDG) investigation into the cases of the missing 31 sabungero. The photographs were shot in Tanay, Rizal, according to the postings.

According to Rodriguez, the photographs of dead people that spread on social media were taken on February 12, 2022, during an ambush in Barangay Kalumanis, Guidulungan, Maguindanao. However, it remained unclear whether ACG would pursue legal action against the five internet users.

He did, however, warn people to use social media carefully. According to Rodriguez, social media should not be used to promote bogus news because this adds to the mental hardship and misery of the missing people’ families.

The cyber patrollers will continue to monitor on a regular basis, and those who promote bogus news will be investigated, he added. The Senate has begun an investigation, and several senators have asked the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation to suspend the licenses of electronic sabong operators until the outcome of the probe.
