Comelec Flags “Prohibited” Marcos-Duterte Mascots Appeared in Vaccination Event

The Commission on Election (Comelec) flagged the Marcos-Duterte mascots that allegedly appeared in a vaccination event, which is prohibited.

At a “Resbakuna” ceremony in Talisay City, Cebu, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez introduced presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr and his running partner Sara Duterte-mascots. Carpio’s In government-run facilities, such as vaccination clinics, campaigning is forbidden.

According to Jimenez, he has already alerted the Department of Health (DOH) about Marcos Jr.’s and Duterte’s alleged campaigning violations. He emphasized that partisan politics had no place in government responsibilities.

“Will refer to [DOH] for comment and appropriate action,” Jimenez said in response to the complaint. “Partisan politics has no place in official functions.”

Aside from the mascot, another photo of individuals wearing DOH t-shirts during the UniTeam event went viral. For examination, necessary action, and due process, Jimenez said he sent the issue to the DOH’s regional office.

In a separate Twitter post, Jimenez stated that Secretary Francisco Duque III informed him that the participants were not DOH employees, but rather barangay health workers (BHWs) who were mistakenly wearing DOHt-shirts. BHWs are under the local government units, Jimenez cited Duque as stating, and local chief executives must be warned against utilizing BHWs for political purposes.

Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission specifies that no civil service official or employee, as well as any military person, shall engage in electioneering or partisan political activity other than voting. While CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada stated that government employees can wear whatever colors they like on “civilian days,” she added a proviso.
