Retired Cop Uncovers Hidden Treasure of Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs – Report
MICHAEL JACKSON – Retired California patrolman uncovers a vault of unreleased Michael Jackson songs, sparking intrigue and excitement – report.
A retired California highway patrolman has uncovered a treasure trove of unreleased Michael Jackson tracks, but fans may never hear them. Gregg Musgrove, now a stay-at-home dad, came into possession of the recordings after an associate purchased a storage unit in Van Nuys that contained the tapes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The storage unit previously belonged to music producer Bryan Loren, known for collaborating with artists like Whitney Houston and Sting. Loren’s current whereabouts remain unknown.
Inside the unit, Musgrove found cassette and digital audio tapes (DAT) of 12 unreleased tracks Jackson worked on prior to his 1991 Grammy-nominated Dangerous album. Some of these songs had only been rumored to exist, while others were partially leaked. Musgrove revealed, “A couple aren’t even out there in the world.”
The recordings also feature snippets of Jackson and Loren discussing the creative process. “To hear Michael Jackson actually talk and kind of joke back and forth, it was really, really cool,” Musgrove said.
Among the tracks is a song titled “Don’t Believe It,” which appears to reference rumors about Jackson involving sexual misconduct allegations. Another, “Truth on Youth,” features a rap duet with LL Cool J.
Despite the excitement surrounding the discovery, the Jackson estate has asserted ownership over the copyrights of all the recordings and compositions. An attorney representing Musgrove confirmed that the estate prohibits the public release of the tracks. The estate later clarified that the master recordings are already stored in its vaults, and the unearthed DAT copies cannot be commercially or otherwise utilized.
According to the report, although fans may never hear the songs, Musgrove plans to auction the tapes through major auction houses. While the exact amount he paid for the recordings is undisclosed, experts expect high bids due to the historic nature of the find.
This rare glimpse into Jackson’s creative genius underscores his enduring legacy as the “King of Pop,” even as the world awaits the possibility of more unreleased material from his illustrious career.
