PNP to Punish Police Spotted Helping in “Oplan Baklas” with Robredo Supporters
The Philippine National Police (PNP) will punish the police who was spotted helping the supporters if presidential aspirant Leni Robredo during “oplan baklas”.
The PNP’s leadership has issued a warning to members who were reportedly assisting in the removal of candidate posters during the Commission on Elections (Comelec) “Oplan Baklas” operation against allegedly “illegal” election materials. They are not permitted to do so, according to the PNP head.
The warning was given after the PNP office received a video posted on social media. Police can be seen destroying the tarpaulins of 2022 presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo in Santiago, Isabela, in a video recorded Wednesday, despite the fact that the location and offices are privately owned.
“This report has reached Camp Crame… Any PNP personnel should not be involved in removing these campaign materials,” said PNP spokesperson PCol. Jean Fajardo in an interview with ONE News.
“Incidents now being investigated and validated and rest assured that those PNP personnel found violating existing protocols will be reprimanded if not penalized for their actions,” she added.
The Comelec launched “Operation Baklas” yesterday to remove election materials from sites where they are not allowed by law. It hit Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, Pasig, and Caloocan in Metro Manila.
Authorities took down posters that were out of the ordinary, as well as those that were big. While it is prohibited according to existing Comelec standards, PNP officers should be limited in providing protection while Comelec and other government agencies remove these campaign items, according to Fajardo.
