Malacañang Reacts to BBM Camp’s Claim that Duterte Tested Positive for COVID-19

Malacañang Speaks on Claim that Pres. Duterte Contracted COVID-19

MALACAÑANG – The Palace reacted to the claim of the camp of former Senator Bongbong Marcos that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte tested positive for COVID-19.

Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte previously went under quarantine after he was exposed to one of his household staff who tested positive for COVID-19. According to the acting presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles, the 76-year-old Chief Executive underwent at least two (2) tests for COVID-19.

Nograles said that Pres. Duterte tested negative on both COVID-19 tests which were conducted a few days apart from each other. He also clarified that the visit of the President to a hospital was for his regular check as advised by his physician.

However, recently, there were confusions when the camp of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos claimed that Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte tested positive for COVID-19 that is why they were not able to invite him to attend the BBM-Sara UniTeam proclamation rally held in the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, BBM’s spokesperson, Attorney Vic Rodriguez, said that they don’t believe it is right to oblige the President to attend a political event. He also stressed that they are mindful of his health and safety citing that he allegedly tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago.

Malacañang reacted to the claim of BBM’s camp that Pres. Duterte tested positive for COVID-19. According to the report, the Palace denied the claim and said that all of the RT-PCR tests of the President yielded negative results.

Malacañang spokesman and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles stressed that the COVID-19 results stated: “not detected”. The said statement was made by the presidential spokesperson during the briefing for Laging Handa.

Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio joined Marcos Jr. at the proclamation rally. Despite the previous tirades of the President against Marcos Jr., the Davao City Mayor and vice-presidential candidate remains hopeful that his father will endorse them as a tandem.
