Will Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte replace former Sen. Marcos Jr. if he will be disqualified from the presidential race?

SARA DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor reacted to the possibility of replacing former Sen. Bongbong Marcos if he will be disqualified.

In the upcoming May 2022 Election, among the tandems are former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, The late dictator’s son is the standard-bearer of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas while the presidential daughter and Davao City’s incumbent mayor is the vice-presidential bet of Lakas-CMD.

However, currently, there are pending petitions filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) seeking to disqualify Marcos Jr. from the presidential race. Some of the petitions cite the tax evasion conviction of the former Senator.

A lot of people await the main decision on the consolidated petitions seeking to disqualify Marcos Jr. Previously, then Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon released a separate decision voting to disqualify him from the upcoming presidential race.

Guanzon is one of the three (3) members of the Comelec First Division that handles the three (3) consolidated cases filed against Marcos Jr.’s presidential bid. According to her, she found “moral turpitude” in his series of non-filing of his income tax.

While the main decision has yet to be released by the Comelec, there are speculations and rumors that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will replace former Sen. Bongbong Marcos in the presidential race if he will be disqualified.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the presidential daughter junked the idea and stressed that there is no discussion between her and Marcos Jr. about the petitions filed against his presidential bid. She also finds the talks “exceptionally unpleasant” because both of them have yet to win the election.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio also said that she is not looking forward to a scenario wherein former Sen. Bongbong Marcos will be disqualified. She believes that the disqualification cases filed against his presidential bid have “no basis at all”.
