Mayor Sara Duterte Wants Mandatory Military Service in PH

MAYOR SARA DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor and vice-presidential aspirant said that she will push for mandatory military service if she will win vice president.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has recently released the lists of presidential and vice-presidential candidates that remain in the official ballots for the May 2022 Election. One of those who are running for the second-highest position in the government is Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The vice president bid of Mayor Duterte went through a different process. She previously said that she will not be running for a national position because her father was also seeking the vice-presidential post and they agreed that there can only be one Duterte running for a national post in the next poll.

The elder Duterte did not push through his vice presidential bid and he also withdrew from the senatorial race. Mayor Duterte withdrew her bid seeking re-election as Davao City Mayor, joined the national party Lakas-CMD, and substituted its vice presidential bet.

Mayor Sara Duterte is running with former Sen. Bongbong Marcos as her president. He is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas but four (4) national parties joined forces to support their political bid.

Recently, during the Metro Manila Virtual Caravan of UniTeam, Mayor Sara Duterte revealed that she will be pushing for mandatory military service in the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it will be required for Filipinos after they will turn 18 years old.

According to the Davao City Mayor, other countries like South Korea and Israel are doing it wherein military service is not just like a subject. In the Philippines, students go through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps or ROTC. It is now one of the components of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) alongside the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Literacy Training Service (LTS).

“Hindi po ROTC [Reserve Officers’ Training Corps] lang na isang subject, o isang weekend o isang buwan sa isang taon,” the vice-presidential candidate said.
