Davao Oriental Hit by Earthquake with 5.4 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.4 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental, January 22, 2022.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao Oriental, January 22, 2022. At 04:43 a.m., Baganga was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 07.46°North, 126.63°East – 015 km South 29° East of Baganga with a depth of origin of 102 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected of the said quake but there may be aftershocks. The following intensities were felt in these areas:
- Intensity IV
- Baganga, Davao Oriental
- Caraga, Davao Oriental
- Maco, Davao de Oro
- Intensity III
- Mawab Davao de Oro
- Monkayo, Davao de Oro
- Lupon, Davao Oriental
- Manay, Davao Oriental
- San Isidro, Davao Oriental
- Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
- Rosario, Agusan del Sur
