Here are some of the anti-inflammatory foods that you can consume
Inflammation helps our body defend itself from infection and injury.
However, chronic inflammation might lead to disease brought by stress, low activity levels, and food intake.
Among the foods that cause inflammation are refined carbohydrates, such as white bread and pastries; French fries and other fried foods; soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages; red meat (burgers, steaks) and processed meat (hot dogs, sausage); margarine, shortening, and lard.
But, did you know that there are also anti-inflammatory foods you can eat?
- Berries- These small fruits are packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals and they contain antioxidants called anthocyanins which have anti-inflammatory effects that may reduce your risk of disease.
- Fatty fish- It is a great source of protein and the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)- which help reduce inflammation.
- Broccoli- It is a cruciferous vegetable, which is being associated with a decreased risk of heart disease and cancer.
- Avocados- One of its compounds may reduce inflammation in newly forming skin cells.
- Green tea- It contains anti-inflammatory properties thanks to a substance called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG).
- Peppers- They contain sinapic acid and ferulic acid, which may reduce inflammation and support healthier aging.
- Mushrooms- It contains phenols and other antioxidants that provide anti-inflammatory benefits.
- Grapes- They contain anthocyanins which reduce inflammation.
- Turmeric- It contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound.
- Dark chocolate and cocoa- They contain Flavanols which are responsible for chocolate’s anti-inflammatory effects.
- Tomatoes- They contain Lycopene which is beneficial for reducing pro-inflammatory compounds related to several types of cancer.
- Cherries- They are rich in antioxidants such as anthocyanins and catechins which decrease inflammation.
