Leni Robredo Leads List Of Top Ad Spenders On Facebook

VP Leni Robredo has already spent this amount for her Facebook ad

Facebook Ad Library showed that Vice President Leni Robredo is the top spender on advertisements from August 4, 2020, the day when the transparency tool was activated, until December 31, 2021.

With the advent of social media, it is a lot easier now for politicians to present themselves to the public. Each aspirant running for any office in the 2022 elections can easily various social media platforms to bring their messages to the people.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN News, on Facebook alone, VP Leni has already spent P14.1 million within the aforementioned time frame. This makes her number one on the list of top ad spenders on Facebook.

Reportedly, the said amount is just 12 percent of the amount she spent on the advertisement on traditional media covering from January to September last year.

It was noticeable that after Leni Robredo announced her candidacy for president, the amount she spent on the Facebook ads had a huge raise.  Lawyer Barry Gutierrez, the spokesperson of the opposition’s presidential candidate said in an interview that they have to “maximize” their online presence. “The fact of the matter is we really have a lot of ground to make up for,” he added.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of Leni Robredo said that the money spent for the Facebook ad came from volunteers who coordinated with the campaign team to boost the posts from the official page of the Vice President or to create new materials for the promotion of her presidential candidacy.

Gutierrez also said that they had to follow the trend since other politicians are also doing the social media advertisements even though ads posted this early are being criticized for premature campaigning.
