PH Government To Hold 2nd Mass Vaccination Drive

PH Government Sets 2nd Mass Vaccination Push – Details

PH GOVERNMENT – The Philippine government will hold another mass vaccination drive against the COVID-19 amid the Omicron threat.

The COVID-19 pandemic is visibly requiring a boost in the fight with the emergence of a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus, the Omicron. First detected in South Africa, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned countries to prevent its entry and spread as it may be several folds more contagious than the previously-identified variants.

The said variant of concern was detected in at least 17 nations across the globe. Many countries are currently implementing travel restrictions on travelers from nations with confirmed cases of the Omicron.

In the Philippines, the government is boosting its vaccination efforts amid the new threat. The PH government previously held a national vaccination that ran from November 29, 2021 to December 3, 2021.

Initially, the said vaccination drive was set for three (3) days only but it was extended until December 3, 2021 in other areas. More than ten (10) million jabs were administered.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the PH government is set to hold another mass vaccination drive from December 15 to December 17, 2021. This time, it set a lower target of giving seven (7) million COVID-19 jabs. Undeniably, many Filipinos are still hesitant to get vaccinated thus the government continues to encourage the public to get vaccinated for their and their loved ones’ safety.

The country is in the pursuit to reach at least 70 million fully vaccinated individuals to achieve herd immunity against the virus. Currently, the fully vaccinated healthcare workers, senior citizens, and individuals with co-morbidities are allowed to get their booster shots.

Different brands of vaccines arrived in the Philippines. There are Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Moderna vaxxes among others. Some of these were procured by the government while others were donated.
