Name of Senator Ping Lacson Used by Scammer for Fraudulent Text Message

A photo was shared online showing a text message allegedly from a scammer using the name of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

The name of presidential candidate and Senator Panfilo Lacson was utilized by fraudsters through SMS messages, according to a clip given by the Senate of the Philippines. The victim’s screen snap may be seen in a message sent to him by an unidentified member of Lacson’s family in a photo posted on social media.

The fraudster purports to offer help or ayuda, according to the wording. According to the text message, the victim merely needs to send his or her details to obtain the specified assistance.

“This is from Ping Lacson Family. Can you please claim your Ayuda’s from our Fam.,” the scammer said in the message.

“Note: If you are interested to get that pls. reply your real name and followed by your complete address. Thank You,” it added.

According to the screenshot, the scammer did not respond after the victim gave his details. Senator Joel Villanueva has introduced legislation to give mobile phone customers a “opt-in” method for push communications by SMS or phone calls, in response to the widespread distribution of text messages purporting to offer high-paying employment and other products.

Senate Bill No. 2460, according to Villanueva, aims to combat the current “smishing” epidemic, which entices unwary persons to give over personal information via links and other related ways. According to Villanueva, this strategy will surely mislead some recipients, forcing the necessity for the government to take proactive measures to combat spam mail.
