German Leaders Push Nationwide Lockdown For Unvaccinated
LOCKDOWN FOR UNVACCINATED – Leaders of Germany started a nationwide lockdown of the unvaccinated population as they push for compulsory shots.
As such, authorities barred the unvaccinated from entering most essential businesses. These include places such as supermarkets and pharmacies.
Meanwhile, patients that recently recovered from COVID-19 are exempted from the ban. Furthermore, outgoing and incoming Chancellor Angela Merkel and Olaf Scholz also backed mandatory vaccinations. If this pushes through, the protocol could start in February next year at the earliest.
For the unvaccinated, they can only meet up with two people from another household. Additionally, bars and nightclubs would still be closed in areas with COVID-19 rates above 350 cases per 100,000 residences over one week.
The announcement comes as Germany struggles with a new surge which pushed Europe to be the new COVID-19 epicenter. Moreover, with the new Omicron variant, tensions are also high with its looming threat.
Based on an article from CNN, Merkel stated:
We have understood that the situation is very serious and that we want to take further measures in addition to those already taken…
The fourth wave must be broken and this has not yet been achieved
The Omicron variant is the latest COVID-19 variant that made the World Health Organization’s “variants of concern list”. It was discovered by scientists from South Africa.
Since its early detection, the new variant had already been detected in countries such as Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the Philippines still has no detected cases of the new variant.
