Duterte May Release SALN To Public If He Wins Senatorial Seat In 2022 Elections
DUTERTE SALN – According to acting spokesperson Karlo Nograles, President Duterte may release his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN) if he wins a Senatorial seat.
For the longest time, critics of the admin have called out Duterte to release his SALN. However, following a new mandate by the ombudsman, it would be up to a government official if they wanted to release the SALN or not.
Earlier, Nograles answered a question of whether or not Duterte would make his SALN public like other Senators if he won. Based on an article from Inquirer, Nograles said:
Hindi ko alam anong protocol sa Senado (I do not know the protocols in the Senate). But, whatever it is, I’m sure the president will follow whatever protocols or practices there are in the Senate
However, he emphasized that “when he wins” Duterte would follow the protocols and policies required in the Senate. Meanwhile, lawyers and other parties still want Duterte to publicize his SALN now.
Back in September, it could be noted how the Ombudsman denied lawyers’ request to get a copy of Duterte’s SALN, which is supposed to be public. Ombudsman Samuel Marities, an appointee of Duterte, explained the rejection was pursuant to the Ombudsman Memorandum Circular No. 1-2020, which he himself imposed.
