Philippines Starts Pilot Face-to-Face Classes on Monday (November 15)

Pilot Face-to-Face Classes Starts on Monday (November 15)

The Philippines have started the limited or pilot face-to-face classes on Monday after almost two years of lockdown.

On Monday (November 15, 2021), the Philippine government has already started the implementation of the physical classes in selected public schools. The Department of Education reopened the schools for education after 20 months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department of Education (DepEd) identified the public schools qualified for the limited personal classes with the help of the Department of Health (DOH). The two agencies impose the limited physical classes in areas with zero or minimal COVID-19 cases.

Face-to-Face Classes

The Education Department welcomed the teachers, personnel and students in 100 public schools for the start of the pilot implementation of limited face-to-face classes. 30 private schools will also join the limited in-person classes on November 22 (Monday).

“Almost all participating schools are ready for the pilot study on November 15, 2021. On the average, most of them are basically on a 90% above preparation,” Education Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma said.

DepEd Planning Service Director Roger Masapol explained that the schools could not impose the traditional learning method prior to the health crisis but strict health protocols will be observed.

Face-to-Face Classes

“Hindi po siya full face-to-face, ‘yong pagbabalik nila (students). Ang recommended ng DOH is one week [of] face-to-face, one week off sa school. So pupuwede siyang alternating,” Masapol said.

DepEd also thanked DOH, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), child health experts, local government units, international and local partners, school personnel, parents, and other stakeholders for assisting the program.

The agency said that he list of additional schools will be eventually released after the validation.
