Pres. Duterte Flies to Davao City & Visits Parent’s Grave
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the resting place of his parents, the late Vicente and Soledad Duterte, in Davao City.
The whole Philippines remains under community quarantine measures. Localized lockdowns that observe the alert level system are currently implemented in Metro Manila. Big public gatherings are still prohibited thus certain announcements from time to time are released.
During the recent commemoration of the All Saints’ Day and the All Souls’ Day which was held every November 1 and 2 of the year, all cemeteries were closed upon the order of the national government. It was in pursuit to prevent crowd gatherings in burial sites amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The said order was implemented nationwide. A lot of people have decided to visit their loved ones’ resting place before October 29 or after November 2. On the actual dates of All Saints’ Day and the All Souls’ Day, many Filipinos continued with the tradition of praying and making offerings at their homes.
Recently, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the resting place of his late parents in Davao City. His parents, Vicente and Soledad, were laid at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Davao City.
Vicente, the late father of the 76-year-old Chief Executive, was a former governor of Davao. Then, the province was not yet divided to Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental. The President’s mother, Soledad, was one of the respected leaders of civic groups in Davao.
Based on the report, the President was with his former longtime aide and Senator Bong Go during his visit at his parents’ mausoleum. His visit came a week after the cemeteries were opened again.
Back in 2016 when the results of the ongoing tally of electoral votes were already securing him the presidential seat, one of the very first things done by the former Davao City Mayor was also to visit his parents. He was spotted crying at his parents’ graves.
