Former secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Mel Senen Sarmiento is the future husband of television personality Kris Aquino. They announced their engagement through a social media post where Kris expressed her excitement to become a Sarmiento.

In choosing a partner, what matters most for Kris is the opinion of her sons and one big factor that she is now in a happier state of her life is because her son Bimby approves of Mel for her. In a previous article, Bimby shared that what he likes about his “Tito Mel” is that he can see how much he loves his mother and it’s a love without agenda. Bimby is her son with professional basketball player James Yap.
“You can really tell he wants to take care of you, me, and Kuya. And basically I can tell that when he looks at you his eyes twinkle twinkle. You can feel he genuinely loves you, mom,’ he said to his mother. Just recently, with Bimby, Kris and Mel shared their love story with their followers.
In their confession, Kris shared that they became official July 24, 2021, a month after their “matchmaker in heaven” late President Noynoy Aquino died. She added, “Because of pandemic and everything, because we’re quarantined nonstop, we got to know each other so well so fast.”
And now, when asked about how Mel got her, Kris shared that she got shocked over his romantic moves. Accordingly, he kissed her just suddenly and for someone who is a shy type, Kris was amused as to where he got the courage to do it. The couple did not elaborate any more on what type of kiss it was like, whether it’s The Notebook or the Fifty Shades of Grey type because Kris was too shy to talk about it in front of her son.
“Di ko mapigilan, e. She didn’t stop me, so…” a smiling Mel said about what he did.
