Customs Detained Art Making Robot Due To Possibility Of It Being A Spy
ART MAKING ROBOT DETAINED – The British art-making artificial intelligence “Ai-Da” was detained by customs authorities in Egypt.
Ai-Da was en-route to her first show in the Pyramids. However, a security group detained her entry into the country when she landed.
According to the officials, they suspected Ai-Da to be part of a massive espionage plot against the government. Much like your typical COVID-19 quarantine, Ai-Da was held for 10 days before she was released.
Supposedly, her work was set to appear at the Great Pyramid of Giza. Unfortunately, her detention got more than just a delay in the exhibition.
Because of the custom’s claims regarding Aida, a heated diplomatic crisis unfolded between Egypt and the UK. Based on an article from News Art, Ai-Da’s creator, Aidan Meller said:
The British ambassador has been working through the night to get Ai-Da released, but we’re right up to the wire now.
Meller has proudly stated that Ai-Da is the world’s first-ever ultra-realistic artist. But, it was her high-tech capabilities that led to her detention. Customs said they were concerned about her built-in modem and the cameras in her eyes.
Meanwhile, the creator said the cameras in her eyes were used to gather data for her drawings which it bases on an algorithmic response to her observations. Moreover, she could also hold conversations using a combination of human input and an AI language model.
“People fear robots, I understand that. But the whole situation is ironic, because the goal of Ai-Da was to highlight and warn of the abuse of technological development, and she’s being held because she is technology”
