DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave a message for the governments of Japan and the United States over their donated vaccines to the Philippines.

Several countries are still in the midst of a tough fight against the COVID-19 pandemic now. One of these is the Philippines which remains under community quarantine measures. Most parts of the country are under a Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

The national government maintains the community quarantine measures in the country while in the pursuit of a population protection. The target is to vaccinate at least 70 million people in the country.

Different brands of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in the Philippines including Sinovac, Sinopharm, Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Janssen. Some of which were donated by other countries through the COVAX facility.

Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his gratitude to the Japanese and the US governments over the COVID-19 vaccines they donated to the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Japan gave the country close to two (2) million “life saving vaccines”. The Chief Executive tagged Japan as “a friend closer than a brother ready to help in times of need”.

The United States donated COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines through the COVAX facility. According to the report, more than two (2) million jabs were given by the U.S. government to the country. Pres. Duterte also aired his gratitude to the U.S. government.

According to the 76-year-old Philippine President, the recent vaccines provided by the United States to the country through the COVAX facility is the 7th shipment of jabs from U.S. bringing the total to approximately 18 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Pres. Duterte stressed that it shows the strength of the ties between U.S. and the Philippines and also the wisdom of the decision of PH to do its part in COVAX facility donations and the boosting the engagement with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations.
