Mayor Isko Moreno Reacts To Trending Call #WithdrawIsko

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Stresses Right to Run for President

MAYOR ISKO MORENO – The Manila Mayor who is running for president reacted to the trending call on social media #WiithdrawIsko.

The filing of candidacy to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is now over. Yesterday, October 8, 2021, was the last day set for it and there were several prominent presidential bets in the next election.

One of those who filed his candidacy to run for president is Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. He is one of the names in survey results for possible presidential candidates in the next election.

Also fondly called as Yorme, the Manila City Mayor ran for a seat in the Senate before he became the mayor of the Capital City but he lost the senatorial race. During the 2019 midterm election, he took the mayoralty race and won.

There were already speculations that Mayor Isko will run for president even several months ago. However, he was never cornered by queries as he always did not address it stressing the need to focus on the pandemic. It was just a few days before the COMELEC opens the filing of candidacy when he confirmed his bid for president.

However, shortly after a presidential contender in the person of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo confirmed her bid for president in the 2022 Election, a public call #WithdrawIsko went trending on social media. Mayor Isko Moreno broke his silence on the trending hashtag.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Mayor Isko stressed that it is also his right to run for president. He raised a question asking if democracy is only for those who are making the call. According to him, he is not trying to bicker with Vice Pres. Robredo who previously said that his stand over the Marcos family was a factor that affected the unity talks.

“Ako walang friction sa kanila, sila ang gumagawa ng friction pero hindi ako magpapatol diyan,” Mayor Isko said.
