COMELEC Reacts To Teachers’ Call for Additional Benefits, Honorarium

COMELEC Speaks on Appeal of Teachers for Additions Elections Benefits

COMELEC – The Commission on Elections reacted to the call of teachers for additional benefits and honorarium during the election.

Currently, the preparations for the upcoming election are already taking place as there might be a lot to cope with. The Commission on Elections considers the possibility that the COVID-19 pandemic may still be present next year thus they prepare what to do in case. The Elections 2022 is going to be a national poll.

Less than 10 months before the next election, there are already surveys for possible presidential candidates. However, most individuals that people speculate to probably run for the country’s highest post in the government have yet to confirm whether or not they’re running.

Most of the politicians remain consistent in stressing that their focus now is the pandemic. Meanwhile, most of them expressed not closing their doors for a possible presidential candidacy, too, next year.

During the election, the people on duty include the teachers. They are the ones counting the ballots and organizing the voting process. The educators receive an honorarium for their services.

Currently, there is an appeal from the teachers’ group ACT Teachers Partylist for additional benefits and honorarium for their election services. In a resolution that the ACT released, they proposed for the following set of honorarium:

  • Chairpersons of Electoral Boards – Php 10,000.00
  • Members of Electoral Boards – Php 9,000.00
  • DepEd Supervisor Officials – Php 8,000.00
  • Support Staff – Php 7,000.00
  • Travel Allowance – Php 3,000.00 to Php 5,000.00
  • Food Allowance – Php 2,500.00

Recently, COMELEC reacted to the appeal of the teachers for additional benefits and honorarium. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the elections body cannot promise it because of the slice on the budget for the national poll next year.

According to COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez, what is uncertain now is the approval of the “wish lists” of the teachers or the benefits they’re asking for. He stressed that they still need to decide on how much to give as additional benefits and honorarium to the teachers.

Reportedly, the discussion over the additional benefits for the teachers will take place in the Congress on Tuesday. More updates may be posted soon.
